Two House Poems

by LOLA

Finding Your Place

Can’t fool anyone-
especially yourself.

The chairs
hugging
the tables-
they are a part
of something greater,
akin to
a glistening light.

Move with unsurety-
as all things exist.

Red House

I could live in a red house.
A red house in Maine or Rhode Island.
Invite all my past lovers to dinner and watch them mingle.
Country music plays, the old kind, retiring the mind.

Are there forks up there?
In heaven they only eat with their hands–
So don’t bother asking for chopsticks.

There is the hot water heater
ticking to light its tiny flame.

What would we do if we didn’t quarrel?

You carved something unimaginable
from the pit of a stone fruit.

Maybe later you can explain to me
the difference between thinking and doing.

Yes, I will take care of you when you are old.
