Labyrinth

by Katherine Sloan

I searched for you

Under stones, beneath bark,

In dreams with countless stairs,

In elevators lifting God knows where.

On landings splashed with water

Cool and rippling.

I looked into the ripple

But it would not hold, forever widening,

The circle vanishing.

I moved through subway stations

And I was frightened.

I searched and searched,

Following your apparition

From one dream to the next

Katherine Sloan lives, writes and is constantly searching in New York City.
