Cracked Open Heart

by Sarinea Meserkhani

Leonard Cohen coaxes me from the grave to write
After years of being trapped in my own earthen pit
Light floods my eyes in the pain of heartbrokenness –
a sorely overlooked addition to the five senses
And I touch the inspiration of suffering once again

She and I embrace
It's been so long she says
Why didn't you seek me out sooner

I haven't been able to find a love that conjured you
Until recently
And had I not met him
We may never have reunited

Thank you, cracked open heart, thank you

Sarinea Meserkhani is a secret poet, a deep well of joy and sorrow in the shape of a human, and a lifelong Animist-in-training.
